Spring Maintenance Season
With the spring months in full swing, it’s important that you tackle some of these essential maintenance points so that your Toyota can keep running at its absolute best.
Change Your Tires
If you caught our last blog post, we talked about the importance of switching out your winter tires with the warming weather. While we went into more detail about why summer and all-season tires are superior to winter tires in that post, the important thing to know is that winter tires are specifically formulated for cold weather.
Their rubber composition and more aggressive tire grooves make them ideal for grabbing onto cold icy roads without becoming brittle. However, their performance plummets when roads aren’t covered in sleet, and the temperatures are warmer.
If you still haven’t changed out of your winter tires, don’t hesitate to stop by our Lethbridge Toyota team, who can make the switch for you.
Check Your Alignment
Roads are at their worst during the winter months. With so many potholes, driving through these roads can wreak havoc on your suspension and cause your car to be misaligned. Performing an alignment is relatively routine maintenance, but it dramatically impacts your car's drivability and shouldn’t be put off.
Check Your Brakes
Winter driving can really wear out your brakes as you carefully maneuver through icy roads. With so much extra stress on your brake pads and rotors, they may have worn down at an accelerated rate. Ensure you have one of our technicians inspect your brake pads to see if they are still in working condition.
Check Fluids and Oil
Winter driving is stressful for any vehicle. With the engine working its hardest during the season, you must ensure your fluid levels are correct. Important fluids include:
- Transmission Fluid
- Brake Fluid
- Power Steering Fluid
- Engine Coolant
- Windshield Wiper Fluid
Keep in mind that many of these systems are closed loops, so if any of these fluids are low (barring the wiper fluid), then it may indicate there’s a leak that needs to be addressed.
Additionally, ensure you are up to date with your oil changes.
Check Windshield Wipers
Your windshield wipers go through a lot of wear and tear as they must constantly battle removing ice and snow from your windshield. As such, it’s important that you check the state of your wiper blades as the rubber may have worn away and won’t allow for good contact with your glass, becoming a detriment when the spring showers come.
For those with allergies, the abundance of pollen that spring brings can be an annoyance. While there’s not much that can be done while you’re walking through the park, ensuring your cabin air filter is in good shape can at least keep those allergens from coming into your cabin.
