Powering the Matrix is an all-new 1.8 Litre 4-cylinder engine kicking out 132 Horsepower. Equipped with Dual VVT-i, it's also extremely efficient and clean burning.

The 1.8 Litre engine is mated to a 5-speed Manual or 4-speed Automatic. Both feature low-friction technology for high response and smooth shift feeling.

Power
Matrix XR, XRS and AWD turn it up with a 2.4 litre engine. The 158 Horses and 162 lb-ft of torque take Matrix from 0-100km/h in under 9 seconds. Equipped with VVT-i, sporty performance arrives with impressive fuel costs and low emissions.

AWD models are equipped with a 4-speed Automatic Transmission. XR and XRS models are available with a 5-speed Manual - with optimum gear ratios to maximize engine performance - or A 5-speed Automatic Transmission with Sequential Multi-Mode Shifting.

Electric Power Steering
In place of belts, hoses and hydraulics, an electric motor, mounted on the steering column, provides steering assist for easy, accurate control and greater fuel economy.

Suspension
Matrix and Matrix XR models feature a MacPherson Strut upfront and Torsion-beam in the rear - delivering a balance between ride comfort and road feel.

Double Wishbone
Matrix XRS boasts a Double Wishbone Rear Suspension - tuned for a higher performance experience.

Sport Struc Tower Brace
The brace stiffens the vehicle frame for better suspension response and precise steering control.

Front Wheel Drive Mode
Matrix's 'Active Torque On Demand' AWD system functions as a Front Wheel Drive under normal driving conditions for enhanced fuel economy.

All Wheel Drive Mode
During start-up, or when the system detects a front wheel slip, torque is automatically diverted to the rear wheels in the exact amount required for smooth acceleration and all wheel traction.

Braking Assist
All models feature standard disc brakes, ABS, Electronic Brake Force Distribution and Brake Assist.

Handling Assist
Traction Control and Vehicle Stability Control are standard on XRS front wheel drive and available on Matrix XR and Matrix AWD.

VSC-OFF
A Vehicle Stability Control 'OFF' switch allows both TRAC and VSC to be deactivated for situations where the wheels need full engine power.

Safety

Air Bags
Matrix helps protect its occupants with six standard airbags, including Dual-Stage Front, front and rear Side Curtain, and driver and front passenger Seat-Mounted Side Airbags. The front passenger seat also has an Occupant Detection System that determines if the passenger is an adult or child and deploys the airbag accordingly.

Active Restraint Headrest
In the event of a rear end collision, driver and front passenger Headrests automatically move up and forward to help reduce whiplash effects.

Brakes
Matrix features Disc Brakes at all wheels for superior hard braking performance and reduced brake fade.

ABS
Anti-lock Brake System: Standard ABS prevents wheel lock-up during hard braking and provides greater control on slippery surfaces.

EBD
Electronic Brake Force Distribution: Standard EBD dynamically adjusts brake force at each wheel according to vehicle speed and load.

Brake Assist
Standard Brake Assist provides additional brake force during emergency braking.

Traction Control
TRAC restrains wheel slip during start-up acceleration or on slippery surfaces. Standard on XRS and available on other models.

VSC
Vehicle Stability Control: VSC improves stability if a vehicle begins to slip while cornering. Standard on XRS and available on other models.
